History of Jaisalmer
Jaisalmer has been around since the 12th century. It all began with Rawal Jaisal, the king of Deoraj’s oldest son. He was the rightful heir, but his younger half-brother was made king instead. Rawal Jaisal was sad and hurt, so he went out to find a new place to build his own kingdom.
While he was looking, he met a wise man named Eesul. The wise man told him that Lord Krishna had said that a ruler from the Yaduvanshi clan (the clan that Rawal Jaisal belonged to) would build a kingdom right there. Rawal Jaisal moved there because the prophecy gave him hope for the future.
He built a fort out of mud on Trikuta Hill in 1156 AD and named it Jaisalmer after himself. The fort was the center of what is now called the Golden City.
